Autumnal Equinox

Autumnal Equinox: The Earth's axial tilt in relation to the sun is "balanced" so that the lengths of day and night are equal on this day.  From this point on in the calendar year in the Northern hemisphere, the nights will become longer until the Earth's tilt maximizes at about December 21st when the nighttime hours reach their longest point.  The Southern Hemisphere experiences the opposite.
